I have aftermarket leds but I wouldn't call it diy too much. It's fairly simple and plugs right into the factory wiring harness

I think you misunderstood, I'm not talking about aftermarket LED tail lights.
I'm looking for pics of where the factory LED tail lights light up on the outer ring when you press the brake. From the factory the outer ring LEDs light up bright when you get on the brakes hard activating the ABS. There is a diy brake light mod thread, and pics in that thread, but I was asking for more photos if there's any.

I believe your light module must be a 4.0 or above to code this.

How do we know/check if the light module is 4.0 & above?

The DIY involves adding a wire to the wire harness and tapping it with an existing wire. Very easy and shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. Worth it to me because it looks better than stock and only cost me about $5.

Not a great pic by any means but it's the only one I found on my phone after I did the mod to my OE led tail lights. Fairly simple and straightforward DIY and 100% reversible if you change your mind later.

adding a wire? thought it was just cutting two striped wires and connecting them and then covering/capping off the open ends?

thought all i needed was two wire taps/connectors, and wire cutters
