330i. After a decade with an M3 coupe, 330ci, and 330i, I prefer the sedan, hands down. If I wasn't purchasing a home I'd have converted the sedan into an M3, already. Amazing chassis from BMW, as it feels like a solid improvement over my last e36 M3 sedan

Imola Red 330i ZHP Touring. Built to spec of course, as such a thing was never available on this side of the Atlantic.

Or anywhere, since zhp was USA only.

I use my M3 as a daily. it's too much economically, to own two cars where I live. I'd unlikely make back the difference and make myself miserable. LOL. Just get proper winters for the M when it's winter and it's good to go.

If I had another car it would be my former ZHP sedan with out folding rear seats. It by far felt more solid and "chuckable" than the M3. With both having KWV2 coils, I felt far more confident in hard corner transitions than the M3 which made that ZHP so much of a riot to daily three years ago for eight years. But I had to know what the letter M was all about.

Default What do you guys and gals have as fun daily drivers?

As stated before in other similar threads, my DD is a 2013 VW GTI. It is one of the best all around cars you can buy. No coincidence it regularly make C&D's 10 best list and some of the most respected reviewers, such as Chris Harris and Jeremy Clarkson give it high praise.

It would be one thing if I hadn't owned better, or more expensive cars, but I actually traded down from a 335i and 335d when I bought this one and it is to date the car I have owned for the longest period of time and am still happy with it.
For sure it is not as refined as a BMW, and lacks some features, but for just about 1/2 the price you can't really expect that. I cannot believe it is this good and offers this much versatility and fun for that price.
Even though I much prefer a manual gearbox, I opted to get the DSG (dual clutch) tranny so I can switch cars with my wife. I don't regret that decision one bit. I would get the same tranny again. The shifts are so crisp, fast and smooth that it makes it a joy to use the paddles. Coupled with the "torquey" turbo engine it really gets going pretty good. I honestly don't feel like it is that much slower than the M3.....certainly doesn't feel like it has 150 hp less.

To top it off, resale value is great also. I bough it for $26k out the door and after 4 1/2 years I probably still could get $17k for it.......the 335's depreciated that much in one year.

He had an entire binder filled with every invoice and paperwork from every time the car was serviced. He also had everything done at the stealership, even after the warranty was up. He ended up selling the car because he couldn't rationalize spending thousands on repairs for a car that he wound up selling for $5,000. Reading through the paperwork was cringe-worthy. I don't remember the exact numbers off the top of my head...but things like ~$200 for an oil change, ~$1,000+ for FCAB and maybe one other small item. It was crazy.

His loss was my gain! He did seem very happy though that the car was going to a BMW enthusiast who intended to drive the car long term and keep it up to snuff rather than someone looking to flip it for a buck...

wow it's crazy that the folding seats make that much of a difference in chassis rigidity. It's a shame really, because i fold the seats down so often. Is the M3 any stiffer than the non-m E46 coupe?

huh. Wonder if that's the reason I felt so much more confident in my '01 330i without folding seats than I do in my M3.

A BMW engineer mentioned in passing than the e46 m3 coupe is 18,500, but I've never seen any numbers officially documented anywhere.
