Default A Lemon Title

I am looking at a car in Tulsa that has a Lemon title. The history shows the original owner fought with BMW in California for three years (2009 Model) and won his 6-speed manual "transmission" noise complaint in 2012 when BMW North America bought the car back under the pressure of the CA law. A dealer by the name of Garnett Motorcars, INC in Houston apparently grabs these cars as part of his business model. Was told locally by a Ford Dealer he buys Mustangs all day long the same way and that cars can be forced back to the MFR'R for something as minor as a smell in the car under the CA Lemon Law. Current owner bought it from Garnett, then began the fight with BMW and a new tranny was installed, "problem gone".

I've got the car scheduled with a reputable shop that says they will comb through it bumper to bumper and tell me what they like and what they dont. Shop only works on BMW, MB and Mini and own a BMW Factory Scanner which is not common. So we'll see what they find. Car's in OK and I am in KC so the first blush is going to be the mechanical before I go see it.

With that knowledge, let me ask: What should I be concerned about with a Lemon title? I would never buy a salvage title, but I can trace the documentation on the tranny claim so I believe the "Lemon" truly was the tranny. Ins agent says no problem insuring it. Other than a reduced value at the end of ownership, what are my risks with this "Lemon Title"? What just occurred to me is maybe the whole car is a Lemon but the tranny is all that made headlines.....maybe?

Hopefully you are paying a reduced price due to the marked title.

Only issue you'll experience is if you try to re-sell it as it will diminish the value a bit for certain buyers, dealers, etc.

If the car checks out mechanically and YOU are happy with the price, that is all that matters.
