Default Unusual Cam Lobe wear? What's the deal?




Doing a valve adjustment and I noticed that the cam lobes are wearing out In a weird pattern. Any ideas. 06 with 88k miles

Also the tips of the rocker arms are brown and it's not oil.

Normal wear. Seen this on a few S54s. If scored part of the lobe doesn't catch with a fingernail, then it should be fine.

Mine has similar scoring on the lobes and rockers, apparently isn't a huge issue if they can't be felt, does bother the hell out of me though. Your engine also looks a HELL of a lot less varnish stained than mine is.

I always thought it could be some sort of dry start wear from poor quality oil or after sitting for awhile. Mine hasn't gotten any worse in 40k.

Hey guys, I'm the one that spotted this while doing his valve adjustment. It just seemed odd to me, as I don't recall that kind of wear on the other cars I've performed valve adjustments on. The car had "low" mileage on it at just a bit over 80k.
