I thought the new airbags were manufactured by another firm?

Yup. My buddy is a service advisor there. So I just texted all my info and set me up. I'm supposed to go try a 440 M Performance too!

I don't think it would absolve BMW from the recall. They have to find a way to replace the airbag. I believe the recall responsibility is still BMW's since they sold the unit as a car and not the unit as an airbag.

Am I wrong?

My other buddy at another dealership wants to give me the keys to a brand new F80. It's hard to choose sometimes. I'll take the F80 a day soon to find out what it's all about.

I still wonder why I parked this 1-hour free of charge job for so long. It has been on this and our local forums for quiet some time. Stupid me..

I didn't even know that the vendor can announce bankruptcy and was just a happy coincidence I called a local dealer yesterday and arranged an appointment for today. Just coming back from the dealer with the job done within an hour. Surprisingly except the passenger's airbag I got the driver's replaced as well. I believe the dealers are keeping certain quantity of new airbags on stock given the amount of affected cars still in use.
