I understand that your mood lights cannot be captured correctly with a camera. I too mentioned this above.

What I meant was orange was chosen for many useful reasons.

It's a far superior ambient lighting.

There is a reason why the cockpit of most BMW's is all orange

I like little mods like this, I would love to do this. Where did you get the dome light for $20.00? I would do it in a heartbeat.

Others read what we write. When you wrote that white LEDs were a horrible choice, they could have easily assumed you were considering my first picture. I assumed you weren't and that you knew about such photographic difficulties And I said so -- twice. I'm happy to learn I assumed correctly.

I believe BMW uses "soft orange" ambient lighting as a visual trademark more than anything else; I am told they use blue for the Mini, which is toward the opposite end of the spectrum!. If you look into what I have written, I think you will find it is based on considerable research, thought and testing.

Regardless of what lead to my decision, if someone is putting my electronics in their car and wants BMW soft orange, I try to do what I can to support their wish and promote their happiness -- even if they later decide that white (or some other color) light is better. It so happens that I was doing exactly that, last night, for a fellow who is installing e39 dome lights in his E36 318ti's, and needs a couple controllers.

They use orange because its the least debilitating to one's night vision.

Even if it is, that becomes moot if you drive at night with your headlights on: they have already stomped on it. As I wrote, a considerable amount of outside research went into what I have written and done. Seek it out and read it if night vision and cockpit illumination interest you. Some of it is fun or surprising or both.

Try staring at the map light, then look at the road one night. You will see then why orange is a good choice.
