Default Vader seat lateral movement

I took my e36 M3 to the track over the weekend and the driver’s seat has developed a slight side-to-side movement under force caused when turning.

I have concluded it’s *probably* the cushion portion of the seat and I’m thinking it’s moving 1/8” or less. It is hard to replicate unless I am sitting in the seat. In other words, I have tried to manually shift it back and forth when crouched beside the car and can’t really replicate.

Not a huge deal but certainly off putting when going around a high speed corner.

Before I take it apart, I wanted to check here for ideas. Any insight would be appreciated!

Your the first owner? The cushion is pinned to the plastic seat base with 4 pins. Often, to preclude wear on the seat base cushion, the cushions are often swapped, the pins omitted.

Manual or electric bases? Electric based seats tend to move around.

Great question and should have mentioned they’re electric.

No, I’m like the 3rd owner. Owner before last had the seats redone and I’m wondering if the upholstery person didn’t put the seat back in correctly.

Thanks for the real OEM link. Will dig into that.

I mistakenly bought Vader’s from a 1995 M3 and they had some horrible lateral movement. They are made out of fiberglass inside. Here are some videos from back when I got them and kind of fixed them. I sold them shortly after these videos.

Before:
E36 vader seat movement. Don't buy seats from a 95!

After:
E36 vader flex

From MY95 you get the much better frames, specially the backrest part. The old ones are crap the way the backrest was designed. There’s hardly any frame to begin with.
