Default Road to 367whp

I realize I'm posting an e30m3 in the e46m3 section, but I thought that the engine mods would be more relevant here. So here is our journey...

Car started as a barn find back in 2006. Was sitting at someone's house, overgrown with grass, destroyed interior with the original s14 in pieces. We pretty much stole the car (original FL car, all vins matched) and our journey for a dedicated track car began.

Stage 1: fully built 2.5L s14 motor. Made about 240 which wasn't bad. But it never ran right and felt too high strung. I wanted more.

Stage 2: Euro s50b32. Basic bolt-ons, made 282whp. Ran great for a few years till the engine let go on us on track. Time to move on

Stage 3 (2011): US s54 swap. SS v1 header, pulleys, drysump, custom 3" exhaust, aFe intake, Epic AlphaN tune made 326whp, which was a ton of fun in a 2400lb car. Ran best of 2:18 at Sebring, doing pretty well keeping up with the P-Cars. But they started making more power over the years and we didn't, so time for more

Stage 4 (last few months of 2018): Upgraded to custom 3.5" exhaust based on Randy's recommendation (EpicMotorsports). Also picked up a Bimmerworld CF Airbox. Threw it on dyno and only made 337whp, so a little disappointed, expected more.

Stage 5 (last few weeks): Schrick 288/280 cams, Schrick Rocker Arms and back to the dyno. We're lucky that Randy/Epic is local to us, so we spent all morning today tuning the final setup. Happy to report that we made 367whp with torque right at 268. Randy is incredible to watch as he works his magic on this engine. Really feels like it all came together, resulting in a pretty big jump.

So final mods making the 367 are:
- SS v2 header - correction: actually running SS v1 stepped
- Custom 3.5" exhaust made by RAW Racing
- Pulleys
- Dry Sump
- Bimmerworld CF Airbox with custom tubing through headlight
- Schrick 288/280 cams + Rocker Arms
- Epic custom AlphaN tune

Will be back out to Sebring for PBOC Winterfest to see how much further we can get into mid teens. Car has been quick at 326 over the years, so can't wait to feel the 40+hp increase. Pretty crazy from an NA motor.

Will post dyno when I get the file sent to me.

My old man's shop did all the work and he also tracks an e36m3 with s54 and his daily is a very clean '03 e46m3. So we obviously LOVE the s54 and have done a few of these swaps over the years. Amazing motor

what fuel are you running?

man that's a dream project car to me. s54 on a e30 it doesn't even have to be an M3 either since they are really hard to find and if you can its gonna cost you..

Thatís really great. I could only get 345 with basically same set up with Epic tune. I ended up going back to stock cams and settling in at 331 peak.

Took the words right out of my mouth. To add, add exhaust porting to the mix.

Such a cool build and car. I don't care at all that its not an E46...I welcome posts like this and envy your car! I want to find an E30 M3 collecting dust in a barn!!

Awesome!

As others have stated, your headers are certainly your restriction point now-- V1 stepped headers next!

... assuming they fit in the e30.

Thanks guys. Car is really a blast, lightweight go kart with a great power to weight ratio. I love seeing the look on gt3 owner faces after not being able to shake an old e30

Oh and I miss spoke about the headers. We are running SS v1 stepped, but my old man has the Epic header and it is massive in comparison. May think about it at some point.
