Default E92 rear sway bar links, impossible to install?

Sorry for crossing platforms and using the 46M section, but the 92M section has posts from 6 months ago on the front page.....

Anywho, I went to replace my rear sway bar end links in the e92 m3, and it appears the bottom bolt attaching the link cannot come out, seemingly, without removing the rear axle............ This certainly can't be correct right?

Unscrewing the bolt backs it up and touches the axle, another 1mm of room and it would fully unscrew, and the whole link and bolt could come out.

Any advice?

It would probably be easier to drop the subframe.

thanks, maybe bmw didn't anticipate these to be serviced much? I just did the fronts and it made a nice improvement, and had new rear links in the box. If it involves dropping the subframe maybe ill just wait..

It’s not as hard as it sounds. I swapped the rear sway bar on my F30 and it took under 4 hours, but it’s not the sort of thing I would do just for fun.

gotcha, to be honest it's making me think about dropping the subframe just to do the stiffer bushings as well, the e92 m3 has a ton of wheel hop.

Also is making me consider Costcos 1,000 dollar quickjack 5000 deal....

One of the main reasons I sold my e9X was that working on it was endlessly miserable. BMW did not anticipate service, imo

That was my thought as I was trying to get the bolt out. It's almost evil. One more full turn and the bolt would unfasten, and everything could be removed (end link and the bolt that's holding the bottom of it). But SNUG against the axle hub. No play in anything. I gave up and reassembled everything

E9x platform was pivotal in my decision to retire from the BMW repair business!
