The only good news here is that they say they can repair it (the block) and have done it in the past with great success.

So i'm going for a full rebuild. The quoted price is better than i expected, but still a large amount. Around 4500 with a two year warranty.
That's not including whatever the vanos will cost so here's my question..
What and where should i buy for the vanos rebuild? I've read about Beisan, but never saw a price or where to buy on their website.

I'm in Europe, so a european store would be better.

Here's a few more pics of the gasket..

There's also another strange thing. The indentations between the cylinder walls on the block are there, but the head is completely smooth. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Any thoughts?

I don't know how it was treated before i bought it almost 4 years ago and 25k kms.
It was already 10 years old, 100k kms (62k miles), was always serviced at BMW within scheduled intervals and was in almost mint condition.
Two owners. The one before me had the car for 4 or 5 years and appeared to drive it sensibly. The average consumption when i got there was low, too low for where i live, but for the area he lives was very possible if the car was driven normally in a daily commute.

With me it has never even hinted any signs of overheating. Absolutely flawless other than the recent ticking noise.

Wow man, this is some serious deja vu. When my shop took my head off, we also discovered there were low spots in the block, which meant it had to come out for decking (and a full rebuild).

What are the details of the rebuild? Would love to hear more.
