Now if I need to swap something out, it's so much easier to get to!

That actually brings up a question I have, please, if anyone knows, fill me in! I am wondering what the normal duty cycle of the pump is? Phrased differently, how many shifts should you get out of a single running of the pump motor in its pressurization of the accumulator?

I noticed yesterday, when driving with the windows down and the radio off, I could actually hear when the pump motor was running (just a slight whirrrr). It seems like mine is giving me 2-3 shifts between each time the motor kicks on, and it runs for about 3 seconds. I don't know if that frequency and duration is normal or not though? I don't have any codes, and all my shifts are nice and smooth. I'm just paranoid about such things I guess ;-)

The Burkhart wiki doesn't mention any duty cycle info, nor does the SMG manual from BMW. I have an updated GT1 and DIS installation DVD I got off ebay, and I know they have a pump test function that you can run, but haven't installed them yet (my current install is just INPA, WinKFP, and two other tools I haven't used). I need to install that and test it properly I guess...
Not sure about the amount of pump cycles, I assume it changes with the temperature, but install GT1/DIS, it is simple and quick to test the accumulator with the accumulator pressure test.

Depending on how temps rise in the drug bin relocation, I think I saw somewhere where the guy cut a hole feeding into that spot and ran ducting to bring in fresh ambient airflow over the SMG pump. He even had it vent out of the fender gill. It might have been the guy in the video posted.

Nice work

that bin is where the brake master cylinder lives on RHD cars.
on the other side is the DME / relays / etc.

no drug bin for us

Headlock,

A guy in Brisbane has relocated his SMG pump to the cavity on the LHS of the car. Supposedly there's space in there.

Didn't have to extend any electronics, just got HEL braided lines to extend it.

It's the cold side of the engine so it should experience even less heat than OP's.

When my SMG pump warranty runs out I intend to have a go at it myself.

If you had long enough lines, you could even put it in the trunk, where it would stay really cool! It would be a lot more work to route it, but it would probably work out well, if you routed it like the battery.
