Andrew -

I guess OP is not on the forum anymore. I bumped this thread hoping we would get some kind of update, but it is old.

Hey, Im still here... In the mean time I bought an M4 and was busy tuning that so it took some time plus we had some issues parts I forgot to order such as uprated bronze valve guides.

Than when we placed the oversize valves in the head there was only a 1.2mm clearance from the valve guide to the end so we had to modify it still to make it a perfect 2mm clearance.

Everything was measured and premeasured at least 30 times to be 100%.

Here is the update, the Engine was finished just 2 weeks ago and it is in the car now, hope to have it started by the end of the week and then go to Schmickler Performance on the Nurburgring for dyno custom tune.

Here are some pic of the Head work porting. Also the TB were ported.

Here the pistons and rods are in...

Bottom end..

Allmost there..

Had to deal with stopping power so I bought a set of M4 brakes and adjusted them to fit the E46 M3..

Took the car out of the garage after a year and 8 months.

Now the engine is in the car and we hope to fire it up this week, finish the CSL intake conversion and ship the car to Schmickler perfomance on the Nurburgring for some custom tune.

They have been present on the racing scene quite some time and with their own VLN Team and doing so many many crazy cars and fastest BMW on the Nurburgring that was no brainer on to whom to trust with the tune.

My goal for this car is to be a "Clubsport" car for Track days but still to be able to drive it to and from the track which means the car has weight reduction to a certain point such as Air con has been pulled of and all the trunk is stripped and back seat delete has been done while keeping all the nice estetic point such as the carpet and the dash and roof are in Alcantara wrapped.

Dont want a full retard race gt3 but try to keep the weight as low as possible...

So here is the final Engine spec:

- CP Pistons 12.5 CR

- Arrow rods

- 87.5 mm block bore

- Schrick 280/288 Cams

- Schrick upper + lower retainer set

- Schrink Uprated DLC followers

- Schrick Uprated Valve Springs

- Schrick oversize +1mm valves

- Uprated bronze valve guides

- Arrow uprated conrod set

- ARP head bolt set

- Uprated main + uprated conrod bearings

- Full head porting + polish + TB porting

- Lightweight crank pulley

- Lightweight underdrive pully set

- Clutch Masters SMF + 6 pack CD

- Karbonius CSL Airbox

- OEM Head gasket

All other gaskets, seals and pumps on the engine are brand new OEM.

I'd suggest searching the forum-- it's littered with horror stories from them.

My personal experiences:

-they blew a head gasket on one of my engines by completely inept tuning and disabling all factory safeties on the ecu, including the rev limiter.
-my original CSL airbox (vac's, back before these were a normal mod) melted, because it wasn't made to withstand engine bay temps
-they completely botched a rebuild on a friends S62 and scraped his bumper while the car was in, with no effort to make good on either. They charged him ~$20,000 and he ended up having to have the entire thing redone (elsewhere) because of the mess they made of it
-the owner of VAC picked up his kid from school in a friend's M5, which he had never allowed anyone (including his own kids) to eat in. On the drive home they squished food into the carpets and scratched the leather with toys (which were still in the car when he picked it up). Did not make any effort to make good on that, either
-I was recently at a BMWCCA banquet and they had a raffle. The owner of VAC won a DE donated by another local shop. He kept it. That really says a lot, imo.

... and I generally hear nightmare stories about them all the time, being local.
