Cool Vintage Early Motorsport Roundels

I'm happy to announce that these are finally ready to purchase! ;D

You're looking at a hand drawn, painstakingly perfected early BMW Motorsport logo in the original BMW Motorsport colours. The logo was designed to look like it was created in a time when BMW owned only one computer, and many long hours were invested into this result.

The base is injection molded chrome plated plastic, and the roundel itself is a composite of an aluminum layer for the chrome effect, plastic for the colours, and a special high quality U.V. protectant layer to finish it off.

The result was designed to outlast all previous efforts; given that I'll be using these myself on cars parked outside in direct sunlight I'll be testing their durability personally.

Fitment for the E36 M3 is two 82 mm roundels. Convertible owners are sadly out of luck as there are no current plans to produce the smaller 58 mm rear roundel with sizing shared with BMW motorcycles.

The roundels are currently available in two sizes:

84 mm Trunk / Boot Roundel (heavily convexed profile and large bevel)

Perfect fitment:

3' E30   (12/1981 — 02/1994) Except M3
5' E28   (06/1980 — 08/1990)
Z3 E36   (04/1996 — 05/2002)

Fits reasonably well on:

6' E24   (10/1975 — 04/1989) Profile Isn't Exact

82 mm Hood / Bonnet / Trunk / Boot / Hatch Roundel (lighter convex and thin bevel)

Perfect fitment:

Awesome, I've been wanting someone to do this since the previous offerings became unavailable.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to run these on cars that never came with them.

I can appreciate the work behind them though.

Agreed.

I really like the classic logo, but unless you have a 70's Bat Mobile...

I've printed some sometime ago, for BBS center logo's. Tried it, then decided not to have them made.

Since no cars ever came with these except on their steering wheels in black and white I suppose they shouldn't exist at all in your opinion? These are the classic BMW Motorsport colours, and any cars made before the purple was changed to dark navy blue in 1994 would be period correct. That would include every BMW Motorsport car I own.

Anyone not interested in these is invited to keep their opinions to themselves and find another thread to post in from hereon out.

Can you explain what you mean by the colors changing in 1994? The E36 saw purple in the M badges through the entire production run (less the wheel stickers and steering wheel badge). Even the E39/E46 which had all blue badges used purple in the M-Texture F2AT upholstery till 2003/2006.

While BMW didn't bother changing all of the parts in the supply chain, when BMW Motorsport GmbH was changed to BMW M GmbH in late 1993 the official BMW Motorsport colours were changed to the current BMW M colours.

We're talking logo designs here, not upholstery, but it is interesting that purple was used in that fabric at that time.

That would make for a cool office paperweight if mounted to the right base.
