Default XDFproject BDMblock remake??

So I have been trying to get hold of Tap and as many know he has sort of disappeared. The last time I managed to get hold of him was in April 2017 I think.

I feel the community still need a back up for the BDM block that Tap created and I just want to gauge some interest if this should be done?

My Intention is to recreate the top PCB board that Tap made - ie BDMblock 1.03 and make it available at cost to the community to assemble their own BDM tool.
Plus a Royalty amount for Tap which I will set aside for him if he comes back to claim it (say $10 per board for now??)

What this means isyou will need to buy your own Freescale FRDM-KL25Z and do some soldering.

I have spoken to Terra about this and as the original bin used to operate the bdm tool was based off a pre existing code for the Saab trionic it is technically open source?? Terra has said he may look into writing a better version of it that is more user friendly for the masses.

I have actually already paid to have a Gerber and Drill file drawn up for the board so it is just a matter of putting it into production.

I donít want to rip Tap off of course but seeing he is no longer supporting the project I feel it right that someone should take over and make these available for the community but also setting aside some money for Tap if he comes back to claim for each board?

Thoughts??

I have to say with MSSFlasher there's a lot less need for the hassles of BDM. But. It is nice to have a hardware solution for emergency recovery.

It's too bad tap totally disappeared instead of at least being available to negotiate a handoff and licensing situation. He's a super nice dude I can't imagine he'd be unreasonable about working something out.

is this why I sent three or four emails to all of his email addresses asking how I can pay for an unlimited license and I've got nothing back for the last year?

I assume that once I hit my limit which I already have I just have to keep buying a new license each time which means he'll just make more money than if he sold the bulk license?

does he disappear because he just tired of dealing with all the bull crap or is it family stuff something else? Or is it one of those Things nobody will ever really know?

I think you’re confusing TAP with Paffy.

Tho that said it is a shame that two of the best dudes creating MSS54 tools evaporated around the same time.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Even when I bought mine, it took about a month to get hold of Tap to actually purchase it.

IIRC he built them to order, so he didn't have a stock pile of BDM's.

I don't know if he has left the scene, or he is just too busy for it, either way, I'm sure he said in the past, he was only doing it to help others out, not to make money from it, so I'm sure he won't mind.

If you need one, I can sell you mine as I don't really have much use for it anymore.

I asked Tap for the board design files a while back, and even though the board is theoretically to help others out, he didn't want to release the design files - not even Gerbers. It's definitely a bummer that most of the knowledge is kept under closed doors without much reasoning, and disappears with the people who dove in.

If you release the board files/ BoM, we can just go to OSHpark and make our own

Tap hasn't logged in for 11mo or so, but Paffy is on quite frequently but has not posted for months.

It would be nice to see decompiled MSS54/HP so that finding out how it works can be better understood. Much of the options are not listed in the A2L I have.
