Default Rob's '03 "Individual" Street Build

Over the last four years I've been working on my first E46M build and it has moved steadily towards a dedicated track car. I love it but at the same time I've made a lot of compromises that make it a pretty uncomfortable street car (plus the wife refuses to ride in it ).

So, enter E46M build number 2! A dedicated street car that will be completely rebuilt. The theme for this OEM+++ that is factory fresh and spec'd exactly how I would want it new with no track compromises. Why buy an M2 when you can build your perfect E46M? This will include new paint, new custom interior, upgraded street suspension/wheels and some TBD power mods.

After a couple months of searching I found a great base car right here in Manhattan! It's an '03 SMG with 86k miles and documented history. Why SMG? Why not? It's a pretty cool period technology and its something additional to modify/tune. Plus SMG auto is pretty nice to have on road trips . If/when the time comes, I can always convert it to manual.

Day of purchase:

Body is in excellent shape with no damage/dents or known bodywork.

Silver like my track car which will make swapping body parts easy! For example standard trunk goes to track car (plus future wing), CSL trunk goes to this car.

Engine bay is pretty clean with some quality upgrades including euro headers and euro catted section one as well as CSF water and oil coolers.

Custom Bi-Xenon headlights are interesting but not really my thing, I'll be going back to OE:

Borla muffler. Strongly prefer the sound of my SCZA on the track car, may have to swap that over:

Sub frame plates installed by previous owner (army green??)

Interior also has some trim mods. Red carbon fiber and custom SMG shifters:

General plan is to get the car repainted over the winter, but before I do that I want to sort out a couple of the mods and make sure everything is working before I pull out the interior. So first is getting the lighting back to OE. New Bi-Xenons and LED tails conversion:

Then I started tearing out the interior. Took a couple hours but everything came out easy:

Including the headliner and sun roof:

Why strip all of this out? 2 reasons, first is the paint will be a color change. Second, I'll be installing this next weekend before it heads to the paint shop:

I want to do a carbon roof so bad. Excited to see your process on install. Are you going with the OEM CSL roof rails?
