You mean the awful, skunky, Japanese R!ce Lager? I'm not.

Since you've never had it, here's a review from BuckeyeNation on beeradvocate.com. He gives it a "D" which I think is generous.

Quote:
Clear pale amber with almost no visible carbonation. The off-white head is frothy, but not airy, falls unevenly and leaves very little glass garnish. Skunk assaulted me immediately after the cap was removed, but is much less evident now that the beer has had a chance to breathe (like a fine Burgundy?). The nose is sweet and grain-like with a modest amount of hops. Not horrible, not good.

Light body, light flavor. Noble hops and grain, sharply bitter from the former and barely sweet from not enough of the latter. I'm not sure what the r!ce contributes, but since plenty of American macros use r!ce (and taste like bilge water) it can't add much that's desirable.

Really, this beer is pretty indistinguishable from hundreds, maybe thousands, of other adjunct lagers, whether they use corn, r!ce or some other non-barley substance. The body/mouthfeel is thin and watery, slipping away into nothingness along with the flavor. Here one minute, gone the next.

Kirin Ichiban proves that an adjunct lager is an adjunct lager is an adjunct lager, ad infinitum. It really doesn't matter what the nation of origin is or what particular adjunct is used, almost none of them are worth a damn.

(I took one last look at the label before tossing the bottle and saw "brewed under the strict supervision of Kirin's brewmaster by Anheuser-Busch Inc." That explains a lot).

Yo Dan. Put Stoudt's American Pale Ale on the list. They're smallish, out of Adamstown PA. Not too shabby if you happen to see it.

Looks like they come to GABF. I'll try to remember next fall.

Seems like they do some solid brews.

Yeah, my local store just got it in... along with my standard weekly set (1 bomber each of Ruination and Arrogant Bastard), I try to get a different sixer each week, and tonight it was this one. Looks like it netted only a 'B' at BA. About what I figure... somewhere just slightly north of Sierra Nevada. Won't blow your hair back or anything, just a better-than-average PA.

A 'B' on BA is typically worth trying. I'll look for it in September.

For Pale Ales I really find this one tough to beat: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/195 It's just a solid beer that's very easy to drink.

I did try this one at GABF last year and it was pretty damn good. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/39

There was a restaurant chain/micro-brew in the northeast that used to have a good one (when they made it). I'll have to remember the name and see if they still exist and send you the info.
