Smile anyone know how to change A/C blower motor e46?

Does anyone has DIY step by step pic to replace a/c blower motor E46?
Please Help me. My A/c fun has whistling noise so at least I want to clean up the motor to fix the problem.

Thanks

Hopefully the dash doesn't have to come out like on other BMWs I've had.

My fan died last night and is now working this morning. I also would like to understand how to access the blower so I can check connections etc. Doing some reading it looks as thought the blower resistor (FSU) may be the culprit but want to check connections first before replacing something that may not need to be replaced.

Check this out... Starting with post #11

Note: I followed these instructions, but I gave up trying to remove the blower. All bolts were off and the motor was in my hands. I just never managed to take out. The darn blower is too big to fit between the engine body. Maybe it has something to do with the s54 engine being higher in the engine bay ???

on my old E30 it was easy as hell to access. There was an access panel on the firewall that allowed you to remove it. hope for your sake its just as easy on the E46

B1G, did you remove the engine cover to get more clearance? That's what I had to do on my E46 323i, then it came out easy. Was going to help someone with his M3, but after reading your post, I'd like to understand your issue a bit better so I don't get stuck in the same situation.

Thread revival.
I'm assuming someone has had luck replacing their blower motor, but all I see is that they couldn't get the fans out or in without breaking the fan blades. Who has done it and what tips/insights might you be able to provide? The Bentley manual makes it seem like a pretty easy job on a non-M e46, but makes no mention of differences with the M.

Second question is, if someone has done this, have they been successful using the X3 P/N as mentioned in the link above? $500 for the E46 part vs $100 for the X3 part that the non-M e46 peeps are using… thats a hefty difference.

Don't know if the X3 fan fits, if it works, let us know!
My copy of TIS says remove the intake manifold for access, otherwise the same as base e46.
Never done an M3, but have done a regular e46. It wasn't too tough, but pay attention to the direction of rotation. The blower fits either way, and when it's backwards it doesn't flow any air. Makes all the right noises, you think you're done... it's more fun the second time.

Thanks, that's good info... at least from a preparedness standpoint. If the non-M e46's can run the X3 blower, I have a hard time imagining that the M model cant as well. RealOEM shows the same P/N for both M and non-M.
