Default Water Wetter vs Purple Ice

For people who are using additives in their coolant, what do you use use Purple Ice or Water Wetter? Anybody have any problems with them? I am reading where both will sometimes create a brown sludge or gunk. But people are swearing by it to help control their temps. At this point, I am looking at anything that will help me control my temps.

Forum does show a lot of older posts of folks using Water Wetter, but I did also read one guy saying steer clear.

Thanks!

Always water wetter; I've seen my coolant go a little brownish but I do a basic flush pretty regularly (basic being just the lower rad hose and not the block drain). The water wetter really helps lower surface tension.

Default Water Wetter vs Purple Ice

Grew up riding dirt bikes everyone used water wetter in their bikes. I started using it in my M3 a few years ago and it does help. I would say it dropped the coolant temps by 8-10 degrees. I haven’t noticed any brown sludge. In hot desert climates every little bit helps.

Agreed. Iron blocks are just asking for corrosion - if you have cooling problems, repair/ upgrade your cooling system

I think I am out of options or my wits end.

I am running

-ESS 575
-Zionsville radiator
-CSF oil coller
-New thermostat
-New Water pump
-Bled it dozens of times with no bubbles.
-No coolant/oil mix showing. Coolant level is not changing. So no headgaket leak

I am still getting a temperature creek under hard acceleration. It doesn't stay in the middle for my ride.

Stupid spell check. “Haven’t” noticed brown sludge.

Blown HG goes cylinder to cylinder so symptoms would be compression loss on 2 adjacent cylinders, 20%+ power loss, RPM dependant pre-ignition with a growing range as the passage gets bigger, and over heating.

Zionsville is just a stock core with aluminum end tanks welded on, so not a cooling upgrade but a theoretical reliability upgrade. I would suggest Koyo for increased capacity if there isn't another underlying problem. Might even net a few dollars to swap. I know people who are N/A track rats prefer airflow to capacity but with over 500hp more capacity is worth something.

I run 25% bmw coolant, purple ice and the rest is spring water for something like 10 years now and the 3 times I have opened it up the mix looked just like it did when I put it in there.

Although it doesn't sound like the culprit, what is your fan situation?

Fan is built into the Zionsville shroud. It is a 16' SPAL. If you are talking about the AC fan its just the stock one, but I have tested it and it is running correctly.
