How many miles on all the pulley/idler wheels up front? If you can sticke your arm down there, determine if there is any wobble in the bearing. While you're in there, grab the WP pulley for wobble also. Amongst the least expensive items to start knocking, the pulleys are it; I hope it's not in your valvetrain... Happy hunting.

Thanks I hope so too! Water pump, belts and tensioners were all done in the last 5K. I though that it could be the alternator however I donít think pulleys would account for the ticking.

Finally had time today to pull the valve cover and take a look.

Everything was perfect. All valves were within spec and no broken or spit shims.

All coil packs were seated properly with no burn or char marks. Also inspected the cylinders with a Borescope. Everything looked good with no sign of metal on metal impact between the cylinder and the valves.

There was what appeared to be a tiny metal flake/spec on cylinder 2. Dead center (Iíll try and get a picture). I thought maybe it was contacting the spark plug? But the spark plug was in perfect condition.

I will be preforming a leakdown and compression test and hopefully have another update by tomorrow

I should mention too that there is 0 sign of metal shavings in the oil filter.

Here is another video from when the car was making the noise.

Oh man that sounds different than before. It still sounds too fast for a rod bearing.. and has about the same tone as a spit shim tbh. Are u sure u pulled all 24 followers and verified there are shims?
When my car spit one, I could hear it was at cyl 5 and promptly found a missing shim there, and thankfully the shim too.
If u can't find any and are sure. I'd think it's bearing, no much else knocks on this engine , but I'm still doubtful at this point

Iím doubtful too. I would think that if it was a bearing it would sound like that all the time. The car only made those noise once and never again. Iím didnít pull each follower, but I measure ever valve. Wouldnít a valve be out of spec if it was missing a shim?

It would.

The sound is very similar to these two videos -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=goDPL26X0x8

Both had a worn cam follower and camshaft. Could be premature wear or a flat spot on one of the new cam followers (rocker arms).

Okay, thanks for the help guys. Iíll see what I can do today.

It would some seriously pre mature wear - the cams only have a few thousand miles on them. The weird thing too is that it only sounded like that for a minute or two. Every start since has sounded normal.
