Default How Rare is a LCB (Laguna Seca Blue) M3 over Red Leather?

I found one for sale, thinking of buying it. I owned a luxury model E46 M3 Vert before, so the only thing keeping me from buying this is that it's not a convertible (bc who doesn't wanna be seen driving around in this beautiful color combo?) And the fact that it's the base model. Oh, and it's an '02 so it's prone to more problems than the later production runs.

Any help or numbers would be much appreciated! Like 1,000 were made in this combo, or 100, etc..

Pretty rare. BMW didn't offer it because they thought it clashed with itself.

I would guess more red interiors have been swapped in by owners than were produced at the factory.

Look carefully. There was one for sale recently that was a repaint. Not original LSB

Since when were 02 models more prone to problems?

I think this is the closest you'll come to knowing for now (just exterior colors)

Also, that does not look like LSB. It was repainted, but to a different color.

there was JUST a thread about this car that hit the facebook page (E46M3 Owners of the World). Run like hell. The post is Aug 26th if you want to reference it.

Its a repaint, and an awful job, apparently this dealership is renowned for BS.

...If it were real, it would be very rare, yes.

Thank you guys for your nice responses. And yes, it is just recently put up for sale. I guess the cars always looks better in the pics. And i believe i was informed by my local BMW shop that models under '04 were more prone to problems like subframes and transmission problems also the vanos problems. I'm only relaying information though. I'll steer clear of it, thanks for looking out guys!

Generally speaking, the later the car is produced, the more reliable it'll be overall. Components that are found to have shorter lifespans are improved over the production period.

The subframe is the same 01-05. 06 got the vert floor, so it is stronger.

The transmission is the same for all years of production, and very reliable.

The vanos MAY be slightly worse on an 04, but you'd be a fool to not lock it down because you have an early production car. All years suffer from it, and all can be locked down forever cheaply and easily.

Later/newer is better. Updated rear floor, updated oil pump and mesh, updated electronics (particularly MK60 DSC), updated ecu, updated diff mount bolts, etc.
