Also, what would the turnaround be for this and how safe/easy is it to take the DME out and ship?
The SMG software only works with the stock software or an ESS tune.

Sorry.

Thanks. Any reason for this?

I would suspect they aren't sure how it is going to interact with what they do, and they don't want accusations of a shoddy product because some other brand of software is interfering with their software working how it should.

Either way, kudos to ESS for another excellent review.

It might work but they don't like to sell products that might work. Basically they have no way of knowing what the other company will have done with the ECU, so they don't know if it'll work properly or not. It would be bad for them to sell something that wouldn't run properly, no?

YES!!! I've been waiting for this....

My questions are:

1. Low speed, low rpm manual downshifts are very laggy and lazy. You pull the paddle and then you wait for the lower gear to fully engage before you can pull away.

- Is this substantially improved?

2. Higher speed, higher rpm manual shifts. You say they are much crisper, faster and firmer. Sounds great, but....

- Is the 'clunk' there in say S4? Because S4 stock is virtually clunk-less.

3. You must be one of the very first customers to use this product.

- Is ESS interested in your feedback and potentially making edits to the software based on your feedback?

Thanks!

Yeah good point. I agree. Didnt think of the interaction between the 2 systems and how they may not work as intended together.

1. The low end down shifts are drastically reduced and the car looses that hesitation. It goes into the gear almost right away.

2. There is a clunk in s4, if you are really getting on it, which seems to had been there even before the software. But just regular driving its hard to notice the small clunk.

3. ESS was interested to see what i thought of the software, but i havent driven the car enough to make note of every thing, im sure if i find something they would look into fixing it or making it better. I will be trying everything out today in detail including launch control

Thanks man!! Keep this thread updated and I will be keeping in touch with you as well. So far it sounds like they've nailed down the few small gripes I have.
