Default New E90 M3 Owner from E46 M3

Hey all, finally bit the bullet and traded my 178k mile '03 M3 for an '08 E90. In the E46 world I remember an awesome "free and cheap mod" thread which was great for learning the little tricks of the new car.

I can wrench on these cars all day but all of the small settings I never really learn until I own the car.

Is there such a thread or similar for E9x cars? I want to try and program a few things if possible. Thanks in advance!

-Curtis

Nice!! Welcome to the fold

I still have my e46m (track/winter use)

I haven't seen a similar thread for the newer cars. Unfortunately it takes a while for the enthusiasts to get a hold of the newer cars and do DiYs, etc

Welcome!

Similar jump here. Traded in my '06 M3 Coupe with 85K for an '08 E90 M3 also.

No such thread yet. I miss that myself from the E46 days. There is a DIY section on M3Post which has a fair number of things in it. And, from a coding perspective, there are a few things you can do.

Enjoy!

I switched 10 months ago to a '09 E90 and couldn't be happier

If you haven't already, get hold of the following mods:
1) Sleeve overs
2) Exhaust
3) Wheels
4)Tune

Thanks guys, I got springs and a washable filter on the way, painting the reflectors today, clutch stop is in, V1 hardwire is in. Little by little, until I can get to some bigger projects on her. A tune can't come fast enough

Welcome. Agree with the others; m3F is just not that active for E9x M. I kinda feel like a red headed step child here.

Anyway, you mentioned a few good ones already, but some I've done also are:

- ZHP Shift knob
- Performance pedals from www.ultimatepedals.com
- Rear fog light enable with Euro headlight switch from ECS Tuning
- Leveraging shark fin sat antenna for aftermarket SiriusXM via Fakra connector in trunk
- Update Navigation map data to 2013 NA via USB glovebox connector

Can you elaborate on this?

You bet.

If your car is post Sep 09 build, you can very likely DIY a Nav update. My dealer quoted $300-$400 for this.

Here's the Cliffs.

1) Obtain or download/prepare a USB (32 Gb) stick with the BMW NA Premium Map update 2013. These are available from the dealer, aftermarket or downloadable. Essentially it's one big update about 22Gb. Load the USB into the glovebox USB port. The car should recognize the update, and ask you for an FSC code to enable the map. If you get this, proceed to 2).

2) Obtain an FSC code from net sources. An FSC code is a 20 character alphanumeric tied to the map update and you VIN. Typical street price is around $50. Enter the code. Takes about 40 minutes to import the Nav data off USB. iDrive reboots, then you have 2013 maps.

If you have an E9x pre Sep 09 build (me), you can download the 2012 maps at least. Sources are available for download, but they will be on three R+W DVD DLs (about 8G each). FSC code part of this is the same.

Hope this helps.

Forgot to add a couple:

- Lux Angel eye upgrade. Replaces those crappy yellow halogen DRLs. I got the V3 5000K H8's last hear and they are excellent.

http://luxangeleyes.com/

- IND color reflectors. Substitute for the yellow reflectors with body colored paint items.

Mine are coming this week.
