Default Obioban's Avin Avant 3 thread (eventually DIY to delete all stereo modules/harness)

I was debating putting this in the existing thread, but seems like it'll get lost in the shuffle... and this will be becoming a DIY to remove the stereo harness from the car completely, all stereo related modules, and replace their functionality with the Avant 3.

I'll tweak the thread title as that happens.

My goals for this project are:
-remove ~40 lbs of wiring/brackets/modules
-add GPS filtering to the V1 (via YaV1)
-bluetooth music streaming
-Waze on the main screen, for police locations and traffic avoidance without having my phone out
-Harry's GPS lap timer on track
-dash cam running full time when the car is on
-ability to pull/reset codes on the fly

In the short term, some pictures I took after wiring it up on my "test bench" (car battery with a trickle charger, connect to the unit) that I took last night. This weekend I'm looking to upload some videos of the interface, for those that are interested.

Right now, just some pictures of stuff I found cool in a couple minutes of fiddling:

Radio tuner interface-- supports RDS

Tire pressure/temp display, which you can use with TPMS sensors. Actually could be quite a useful track feature!

OBC functionality retained (and expanded)

Button backlighting can be tweaked, if you're not happy with the stock setting (I haven't compared it in a car yet, but from pictures I've seen of others I don't know if I'll feel the need to tweak it)

My super janky "test bench"

More to come/change in the coming days....

I'm super pleased with this thing so far. The button presses and knobs feel nice, it doesn't look cheap anywhere, and it's very much stock looking-- just with much more functionality. Can't wait to get it in the car!

Looking forward to see how this progresses. Iíve been on the fence on this upgrade, in lieu of all the other cool stuff on sale over the holidays.

So for your initial experience how responsive is the UI and how seamless is it opening/navigating through apps and features? has anything popped out to you as an annoyance or bug?

Can't wait to see a picture of the wires/weight removed. I am assuming you are going to weigh it?

From what you have so far seen, will this unit show me the actual tire pressure per wheel on my 2003 M3?

Of course

Though I've already lightened my stereo previously, so it won't be fully representative of the possible losses-- I'll add the previous weight savings, so people starting from stock can know what to expect.

I've only briefly played with it, but so far pretty seamless and bug free.

If you add TPMS sensors, yes. It can't pull that off our wheel speed sensors (which is what the stock TPMS works from)
