Default 2002 M Roadster - Steel Grey/ Black - 69,000 Miles

I recently purchased this car after shopping for a while, but as it turns out, I'm just a bit too tall for the car. I'd rate the exterior a 7 (if I keep the car, I'll refinish the wheels and the paint is great but there is rash on the bumper cover and hood and a parking lot bump has the rear light out of line though the bumper fits perfectly) and the interior an 8. Mechanically, the car is a 9.5 (I only discount because I'm sure there's something, though I've fixed everything discovered).

The previous owner replaced the top a few months ago. Since taking delivery, I have installed new Michelin Pilot Super Sports (they have less than 200 miles) and a new shift knob. A steering wheel is ordered but hasn't arrived yet (both the wheel and the knob are/were fine, it's just a personal preference to have both new when I drive a car).

The previous owner kept fairly good records for the car. I've repaired an oil gasket and other minor issues discovered during the PPI. Compression and leak down are good (I can share results from 200 miles ago).

The car comes with a soft wind deflector and a rubber OEM top cover.

I'm a collector and would prefer to trade, but I'd entertain selling too if anyone is interested.

I'm in the market for:

e36 M3 (coupe only under 60k miles)
e46 M3 (comp, silver gray/black only, no sunroof, LOW miles)
e34 M5 (under 80k miles, but willing to consider higher mileage)
e60 M5 (under 60k miles)

I'm willing to add cash with the car, or take a cash and a car in for trade, depending on the car. For the right trade, I also have a 2001 M3 (carbon black/black, 6-speed, 52,000 miles) that I'll eventually be parting with. That can be included with the Roadster.

All cars must be manual transmission (I could be convinced to buy an E60 M5 with an SMG transmission if it's the right package).

I realize that these aren't the best photos, so I can take iphone pictures of any particular panels as needed.

Thanks. My e46 isn't for sale right now. I have to find a replacement car first.

Still wanting to trade.

Scheduling a respray of the front hood and bumper cover this week along with wheel refinish and rear view mirror replacement. Steering wheel is on order too, but still not here.

Just out of curiosity, what would you value a car like this at? I have a friend with nearly the identical car, but in LSB.
M-roadster values seem all over the map.
Looks like a very nice car, and great taste in the replacements for it as well.

In its present condition, somewhere around $22,000. Dealers are offering trade in at $20,000, so I figure the private market value is a bit higher.

Once everything is perfect, I think it will be closer to $24,000 to $25,000, which will be high, but again, it will be perfect.

Mileage is on the high side for a collector, but there are several 30,000 mile examples in the high 30s, so I think 35% discount makes sense. Plus, if you're patient, the right buyer may come along. I also think it's dependent on the time of the year. If I still have it in May, I'll just list it on BAT.

LSB is more rare, though I'm not sure it's as appealing to as many people. I know some people pay more for color, though truthfully, I'm not sure it really adds "value". Instead, the wrong color may kill a potential sale. Taking to people like EAG and Lux, they seem to price color into their ask.

Right. The prices of the roadsters don't come close to the coupe values. Still, like any other old car, clean, lower mileage cars are getting harder and harder to find.

When I was looking, the question was: Do I want to pay a $10,000 - $15,000 premium for the same condition, but half the miles?

At this juncture, I didn't (plus I found a color that looks stunning on the car and is somewhat rare). Had I intended to keep it forever like my M5, I would have looked for a 20k mile care and paid $35,000 (or more) for one of these:
