That's funny because I've heard elsewhere that the ST60s have worse knock back. But I have a friend with an E46 M3 that has the ST60 front and ST40 rear. He experiences no knock back at the same track as me and he's a couple seconds quicker.

Also have a friend with an E46 M3 track car with full aero. He runs the ST40 front and rear kit. Zero knock back.

Seems like it's hit or miss with Stoptech. Some have knock back and some don't. Not sure what the variable is.

I took a friends car for a back road test drive and almost put it into a tree on the first corner because of the ST60 knockback. Wasn't expecting no brakes

Seems worth mentioning that the any retrofitted anti knockback springs means the pad is constantly in contact with the rotor.

Atleast in the NSX world they had the reputation for being well balanced witha proper bias if doing all 4 wheels.

This is true. But if I recall correctly, the spring rates are something like four pounds. Very little, if any drag. Also, the Stoptech Trophy and AP brake kits come with knock back springs preinstalled. So it seems standard for any car the will be seeing performance driving.

There's some truth in this... add to it the required effort to properly retrofit

This is true. I bought a set of Porsche calipers to do the conversion. Once I priced everything out and figured how much time it would take, I said screw it and ordered the Stoptechs. So now I have a set of Porsche Brembos just hanging out in my basement.

For anecdotal feedback, I'm running the STR-60 355 and STR-22 345 from the last fire sale and haven't had any knockback issues. I'm using Pagid RS29 pads on the track and Stoptech street pads on the street with BFG Rival tires. I'm also not fast, so that may also be a contributing factor. Overall I'm still happy with my purchase.

You have about 10 different options for street padsfor the ST40. Just get a pad for the Porsche 928, 948, 968 or a specific year of the 911 Turbo (its an early 90s...only 1 year and I forget which one). You have more options for the ST40 caliper than any fixed caliper other than the Brembos that come OE on Porsche's.

As far as pad knock back, never experienced it on 4 different cars with the ST60, ST40 and ST22 (rear) calipers.

Now I do believe there were some issues with the pad abutments plates on the ST60s that caused a really tight fit which might result in pad knockback. More than anything, that is the result of the rotor and hub.

I'm sure there are better performing BBKs out there. But a 4 wheel ST40/355mm ST BBK has the lowest long term operating costs by far. I've got 18 weekends on my front rotors - 31mm (new is 32mm, min is 30mm), rear rotors 31.8mm (same as fr). My fronts have some significant heat cracks but still usable. The rears have no cracks. I just rotated my friction discs so I have pretty much new discs on the front, heat cracked discs on the rear (which don't heat crack). Cost me $20 in Loctite and hardware.

Stoptech offers the best value with a level of reliability that meets the needs of HPDE drivers.
