I called my dealer to see if they had any stock left and they said no, and that the DCT fluid was now the official recommendation for the e46m.

I have 4 cars currently that use this fluid, and plans for 2 more. My wife and I combined drive 50,000+ miles per year. I change the trans fluid every OBC inspection interval, so every 25,000-30,000 miles.

So.... My 27 bottles (found 3 more) is a ~7 year supply for us.

Just about to buy a few liters of Pentosin MTF2 I found... one question though:

Can we use the oe MTF-LT3 75w-90 from BMW?? Just wondering because I thought the e92 m3 transmission was specced with the same MTF2 as us but my dad just changed his and they gave him the LT3 at the dealer.

Edit: I see in this thread that Ian mentioned the LT3 as thinner and the wrong oil for us, but 75w-90 is thicker than 75w-80 no?

I don't know why I said thinner there... clearly incorrect!

BMW updated our car from LT1 to LT2, but did not update us from LT2 to LT3-- which makes me think there's a reason. Doing so, they could have stocked less fluids (so there was an incentive for them to do it).

No worries... according to this though it still looks like MTF2 is the proper spec for both the e46 and e92 M manuals (..and smg), so I guess the dealer gave my dad the wrong stuff.

I'll be getting some MTF2 then!

75w-80 is hard to find in the aftermarket.
Most GL4s that are not marketed as ATFs are 75w-85 or 90.

Maybe the 420g is sensitive to viscosity and might be why the OE fluid works so well.

I used D4ATF, MT90 and those caused my gearbox to not shift well. Maybe it needs 80 weight to allow the synchros to speed up?

If LT3 is wrong for the e9XM, probably best to get his switched out, as well!
