The bodyshop that broke my hardtop trim did the work for me instead for free...
Today I installed my BMW garage mount hardtop removal system and pulled top off my new to me 03 vert. The headliner has come loose and sagging a little bit. I looked at pretty closely to see what I might be able to do. I was thinking that maybe using some of those flat upholstery push pins might work cus I am afraid any adhesive might bleed thru. I have not found any threads on the removable top that address this. Any ideas??

Talk to body shops and upholstery shops to get an idea of what adhesive to use, also there were several members on this forum that were going to redo their headliners, perhaps they can post to advise on what glue they used and its results...

sorry reviving this thread, but I have the same problem. Anyone get their headliner fixed? I read that you can use a 3M adhesive made especially for the headliner.

Thanks!
Tan

there is no glue that would work there is a thin foam that is on the material it self that over time the foam disintegrate and if you try to reglue it would make it harder to clean the glue and the old foam you have to remove material and hand sand the foam that's left on the top and replace with new material ( do not use can spray glue none will work when it gets hot the glue will not hold ) you have to get a trim shop to do it

Default Re: Hardtop Headliner Removal

To remove the headliner off the convertible hardtop its pretty easy. The only part that is a bear are the coat hooks.

Remove the Oh-Crap Handles which on mine is a 3/16 hex head.

Remove the Side Rear Pillar Covers and latch door.

Pull from under the Side Covers and it will start to pop off.

I could not remove the Coat Hanger pieces so I worked it out and pulled it through the headliner. The headliner will flex enough to get it the piece through.

Detach all the other pieces and take it to your shop.

I had mine redone in the black BMW headliner with 1/8 inch foam pad. It actually matches the car better than the Anthracite OEM. I was able to locate the material which was exactly the same headliner as OEM but it did not have any foam backing. Instead of making things work around the non foam headliner material I just choose to use the BMW Black Headliner and it worked out fine.

The shop that I took it to did the C-Pillar Cover, Headliner, latch pieces and the rear window trim bar for $325.00.

So it was a complete redo to match all the pieces and it was an easy process.

You will need about 4 yards max. The headliner maybe is 2 yards at that. I had one shop tell me it was 4 yards for just the headliner piece and wanted $550 just for that alone. Not including the other pieces.

The BMW Black headliner runs around $25-35 a yard if you don't have a wholesale account to get it. It's not OEM but its pretty good. Same pattern and feel. Most headliner shops will have it.
