Curve Fun for Families: The raciest Van comes in the future of BMW - despite front-wheel drive. We have experienced the Munich at a first passenger ride.

So far we were able to beat him only in theory. This BMW, which reveals all the best for the brand basically. A box suitable for families with hochgebockten seats to front-wheel drive, transverse engine. Basically here swell barren reason and typical compact pabulum from any body seam. In short, the Active Tourer is nothing more than a run of the mill piefiger Van with BMW grill. Cut! That's the theory, now the practice.
The 2er dominated dynamics and comfort

After a first driving impression comes the all-clear. In Active Tourer but there is more BMW than expected. Anyway, as far as we could already sensing from the front passenger position. Development engineer Tobias Fleischer has demonstrated to us the car three weeks before the official launch in motion. Demonstrated is good. He has given correct sandwich. At BMW they are in fact very proud of the talent curve of the family edge, have therefore asked for the passenger ride in a particularly angular and undulating country roads. This first fast laps, the 225i has sold very neat. Especially the good road to falls. Chill always the Tourer expresses all four wheels with particularly intimate touching distance on the asphalt, stability and cornering behavior seem top notch. And the comfort is not too short. In poor surface of Van springs even like a giant. Under full ausgenutztem travel of the carriage ironed even rough waves smoothly - without overturn too fast or delve too hard.

Disadvantages of front-wheel drive compensates for the electronics

Steering? Drive influences? A judgment for this we need to move from the passenger position out is not to feel the best of intentions. However: When accelerating hard the telltale squeak of rubber remains off. Shallow slip of the automatic and electronically controlled torque output of the two-liter cover up the fundamental disadvantage of front-wheel drive. The 231 horsepower of the high-torque Benzindirekteinspritzers has the chassis so under control. Everything is great so? Not quite. Despite the binding vote urges rough surface a delicate tremor into the interior. In exchange curves of the design also tends stronger. This will be felt very soon due to the higher seating position. And: the stiff tires (18-inch format with 45 mm cross section) rumble heard and felt over bitumen patch; ever the car rolls always from acoustically audible. In the series-produced car to additional insulation provide for peace - BMW promises.

Thus, it could be really solid in the interior. Here the Active Tourer is in fact invariably a genuine BMW. Instruments, as we know, comfortable front seats (behind the faces are however short) and plenty of multimedia features spread much more premium atmosphere la BMW as the Piefigkeit a van. Well done, the betrayal of the white-blue brand values so that adheres actually within tolerable limits.

Hopefully the test drive tested the speed at which slamming in to a brick wall causes the car to be totaled?

I like it, seems like an awesome car for what it is and the intended purpose, would choose this over a honda fit or a golf or a mazda5, and since it's a car for Europe I'd choose it over all those terrible fiats and puegots and seats.

Didn't think it was possible to create headlights that ugly.

It'll still sell like hot cakes.
