Moot point for me as Iíd get an M2 regardless; but if M4 is out of warranty then all the more reason to get the ďmore funĒ car anyway. In my opinion the M4ís only advantage is straight line acceleration, but itís takes quite a set of circumstances for that to be a deciding factor.

If itís a non Comp package M4 make SURE itís adaptive suspension because the non adjustable car rides like a slate bench. I also agree with the M3 > M4 sentiment, because the two cars are large enough that the M3 is actually a very usable sedan.

M4 would be used (most likely, as there are some good deals on new out there, but more than I'd like to spend). There is one CPO M4 that just listed, so I can't see the details on that particular car yet.

If BMW doesn't screw up the M2 CS, and you are open to buying used, I'd hold off on purchasing for a bit. I have a feeling once the Comp Pack M2 comes out (again, contingent on BMW not screwing it up) the first run of M2's will drop in value as the internet begins comparing the N55 M2 to the S52 E36 M3.

Also, if you're in the market for fast (and I mean fast) two doors at this price range and don't mind porkier automobiles, the Camaro ZL1 exist, and no matter what performance metric you look at, it puts down silly numbers. Not recommended for the claustrophobic however. Just a thought if your wife's already in a Mustang but wants more handling and speed. The ZL1 puts down lap times comparable to some serious high level sports cars.

I am not a fan of the m4... M3 handles a lot better and is more usable & attractive IMO.

So if it’s m2 vs m4 I would recommend the m2.

What does your wife look for in a car?

She's quite right in terms of interior quality of the M4 vs. the M2. The M4 also has more presence and allure vs. the M2. Driving wise, it's not much of a comparison as the M2 sounds better, is arguably more capable, and arguably more fun to drive.

So again, it comes down to what she's looking for. If she's looking for something with road presence and a more luxurious interior/daily driving fun, the M4 is the way to go. If driving dynamics and sound is more important, then the M2. If you're looking for an honest mixture of both, I'd say get the M4. The power is genuinely addicting at the end of the day as long as you can live with the sound (which can be changed drastically to sound pretty decent IMO).

And as a tidbit - aftermarket parts on the M3/M4 are more readily available. The M3/M4 can have its DME unlocked via OBD2 port now, meaning a stage 2 flash with catless downpipes means 500whp pretty easily.. the power is intoxicating on that platform.

I'm going to say M2 just because it looks better and maybe feels sportier for a pseudo sports car / sports sedan. M3 also looks much better than the M4, plus if you want more space than the M2 you might as well get 4 doors with your heavy sports sedan.

Neither of them look that great or that bad, aesthetics are a virtual wash as neither will ever look as good as an S550 mustang. I personally have more want for the M2 because I think it's the perfect size car and I'd like something a little smaller than the Stang for daily driving in traffic, but my friend's M4ZCP is a very impressive car in both the performance and amenities departments.
