Tough choice between the two, but I personally chose the GT3.

I never drove the R8, but I have heard them. Am I insane for thinking the flat 6 in the GT3 sounds better than the V10 in the R8/Huracan? While cross shopping the GT3, I was considering the R8 V10, 458 Italia, heavily tickled Huracan, etc. but I chose the GT3 at the end. Just sounds better to my ear than the V8/V10 found in those cars. I've always preferred the sound of 6 and 12 cylinders over 8 and 10 cylinders (LFA excluded). I know you guys are all about the manuels, but I can take it or leave it and as a result, the R8 V10 doesn't seem as appealing.

And a little tidbit: the 10th letter of the VIN of a 991 GT3 tells you what series engine it has. This GT3 has an E series engine, which is the one that had the most issues since it was the first generation built. But then again, Porsche has extended their warranty for all 991 GT3's for a full 10 years from the first service date; so there's less things to worry about now.

I was agreeing with keca. Also, a gen 2 isn't a post facelift.

I never suggested that it was.. I'm fairly well versed with R8s.

Well you did say a facelift is 2013 MY onwards. That, along with the context of your post in response to mine, made it a bit unclear.

Sorry, I meant 2014 MY for the US ... 2013 MY for Europe

For the US
R8 Generation 1 PRE-facelift was MY 2008 - 2012. (R-tronic)
R8 Generation 1 POST-facelift was MY 2014 - 2015 (S-tronic)

R8 Generation 2 Pre-facelift is MY 2017-Present (S-tronic)

Didn't know you could get a 5.2 R8 with R-Tronic (not that you would want to). I previously thought all non-manual 5.2 R8s were S-Tronic. No wonder some are listing for ~85k. Thanks E.

Yep, the R8 5.2 was introduced for the 2009 MY. Even the R8 GT was a pre-facelift car with R-tronic..
Not much demand for that car either despite that only 90 examples ever came to the US:

Just so you guys know.... because it isn't well known.

There are only 26 examples of the V10 Plus in a manual transmission. The retail figures of $140k (possibly a little less for private party) won't be around for long once people catch wind of how rare these are.

Heck even the S-Tronic V10 Plus models in their own right, at 163, could garner Unicorn status, which begs the question...

What's the likelihood of a Manual being something you'll see for sale without a huge price tag 3-5 years down the road?
