Wrong. The E46 had a rev limiter that was very soft originally. It would actually hit 8,600+ in first gear. The reason that people freaked out about losing revs is because the E46 out accelerates the tach in first gear. If you stay on the limiter, the tach will catch up and hit 8K.

I wonder how long we have to get this done. The letter says failure to do it will count against you as a "lack of proper maintenance" vehicle. Since my 04 with 52k miles is out of warranty anyway, who cares? I'm 10k miles or so away from my Inspection 2 that I was going to have done at my dealer (Mt Kisco BMW), so I might just wait until I have that done next winter.

  • If you are wondering about whether or not to buy snow tires, please review the dozens of threads where people caused thousands of dollars of damage in a light snowfall at 10 mph.
  • If you are thinking about buying an M3 because they can now be found pre-owned fairly inexpensively, please review the threads explaining how expensive the maintenance is. Plan on spending $2,000 or more per year on routine maintenance.

I had this problem fixed out of warranty last year for like $300+

I called and they said I should get refunded by the dealer
+1 Got my letter in the mail today

I'm glad they will be footing the bill as mine has came on once or twice in the last year and has only stayed on for a day or two.

Now that I think about it, maybe my sensors weren't bad and it was the DME. I had to clear that code every 3 days or so. I did confirm that I have to pay nothing out of pocket but they would need my car for a full day.

Its possible, but I have a very good service advisor who's always been good to me

I got the letter today and wonder how my D/A software is going to affect the recall and vice versa...

Received the letter today as well. My car has had no issues and I prefer actually not to take it in. I don't trust the dealership.

Unfortunately, I think it would override your D/A software as it's a software recall.

I just received my letter today and I'm debating if I should bring mine in.
