Would someone be kind enough to scan and post the letter?

Default SES light - Thrown codes indicate DME reprogram

My car's SES light came on this weekend while cruising on the interstate. The light was solid (not blinking) and stayed on. so this morning I took it in.

Just got off the phone with my SA and wanted to let you guys know my results FYI.

I had mentioned to him my thoughts on what had caused the light: cats gone bad, O2 sensors, camshaft sensor, or new recall/reprogram.

He said I was right and that the codes were being thrown because my DME needed to be reprogrammed. He reported that nothing else seemed to be causing the fault. So I get to pick up my baby after work, which gives me a chance to flog it a lil bit still on my b-day. Yay.

Also, he said BMW picks up the bill for the reprogram, so hopefully all of you out of warranty should have good luck as well.

I love this forum; its nice to go in to the shop with a good idea of what is causing the problem.

The recall 08E-A03 is for a reprogramming of the DME Control Unit.

I just received the letter today, and there is no reference to extending the emissions system warranty or any reference to also applying the the 02 sensors or Catalytic converter.

If someone has a different letter please scan it in so we can see it. Here's the current letter.

Sounds like they can't isolate the issue and they are just executing the open service campaign for the DME reflash.

To me this would result in more questions than answers.

Default SCANNED!

I received this version of the same recall. I have an '06 and the recall notice only indicates a DME reprogramming. Should there be a concern about lowered performance to "enhance" lower emissions after new new software is installed?
