Default EML Light, DSC, Brake, and now Service Engine

Good morning M3'ers... I've got a 2006 M3 6-speed with about 44k on the odo; Dinan intake, MAF & software. No problems to speak of until last night. My EML light came on yellow, but no other symptoms. My wife flipped through the manual, and as she was doing that, my DSC light and brake light both came on yellow, and I instantly lost power. RPMs were limited to about 3k regardless of throttle pedal position. I did a "rolling reboot" (let's not make this thread about that) by shutting off the car, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on, and all of the lights disappeared, back to full power.

This morning, no problems until after about 10 miles, when the service engine light came on yellow. I thought I'd ping the group to see if anyone has seen this before. I have a scheduled service coming up--the last service in my 4/50. I have an extended 100k warranty, but want to see what this is all about before that kicks in.

TIA

From what I've read in the past with others having all three lights come at once. More then likely its the throttle position sensor. But seeing how your M3 is an 06, it should still be covered under the service plan.

Yeah, should be bumper-to-exhaust tip until 50k. I'll post my findings, not sure if I'll make the effort before my next scheduled service if it doesn't come back.

if under warranty, go to the dealer to read the codes in the DME log (computer). If not, try to find an independent BMW shop with GT1, aka the same diagnostic/config utility system that the dealer has and have them read the codes.

Unless you read the codes you will not know. If nothing comes back until your next scheduled service, then when you go in for service, have them pull the codes from the log anyways, to make sure. Yes, the logs will still have the codes there, unless someone manually clears the log.

Reading the error codes is a must. I recently experienced the same symptoms as you. Turns out I have a faulty pedal position sensor or TPS. Haven't gotten it fixed yet, but plan on getting the car to the dealership this week. Here's a link to the thread.

it happened to me twice one day and then two more other times a week after. only went into limp mode when i had sport mode on. i turned it off and been driving moderate and shifting at 3k-3.5k rpms and has not turned on yet. i ordered a new pedal position sensor module and a spare TPS sensor. the new pedal position sensor is a newer revision, i think 2008 or 2009 IIRC.

Good info, Viper & PS. I'm going to get it taken care of under warranty & will post when I've gotten the codes read. I'm riding around with yellow service engine light, but no other symptoms.

what i did was bought a OBDII code reader from WalMart and read and reset the codes. it turned off the SES light but still EML and DSC light turned on a couple times without giving another SES light. driving around with sport mode off so far no issue. im pretty sure it is my pedal module.

Default Re: EML Light, DSC, Brake, and now Service Engine

Having this same issue... bumping old thread.

Car has had code P1637 come up a few times in last 10k miles... always got it read and always was told to let it go and see if it comes back.

Was taking intake manifold off to clean ICV and Dinan TBs... hoping it would solve my intermittent stall issue when disengaging clutch at speed on highway (no lights on dash)...

Got it all back together and under heavy throttle at >4.5k rpm car goes into limp mode with EML Yellow Brake light and SES light. Lights turn off after car is restarted... same problem occurs again when under heavy throttle at high RPM.

Think TPS is next thing to check?

I'm at a loss.......
