There is a flat Allen head bolt on the top of the vanos, looks like a pressure bolt? Has an o-ring, I can't find any info on it, realOEM doesn't list it or the o-ring or it's torque spec.
Anyone chime in with some info on it? |

The only pressure bolt on top of the VANOS should be a 14mm hex banjo bolt.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...94#07119905175 #9 on this diagram... should have a copper crush washer above and below the line. Runs from top of VANOS unit to the accumulator down below. Torque spec - 13Nm or 9.5 ft-lb If it's allen head, it doesn't belong. Maybe post a picture?

That's nots a separate part. And does not need to be removed.

Ok, I removed mine do to needing to clean the vanos thoroughly, it's clearly a constant pressure type, like the one on the side of the engine block. It has an o-ring in there as well. NOw that I removed it, I just needed the know the torque spec to put it back. Guess I might have to contact Raj about it

Ah gotcha. It's not too common I see a reason to remove it. Except I do recall a member having his leak and need an O-ring.

Emailed Raj but he didn't know the torque spec either, most of the head uses 10-14Nm for external bolts to aluminum so I went with 13Nm

That's the inlet pressure regulator to the high pressure vanos pump. This regulates the pressure coming from the engine feed.
And then of course you have the 100bar pressure regulator after the pump.
