Someone would pay that, but the car needs to be a lot nicer.

Stainless Steel aftermarket exhaust note is reminiscent of the sound of prancing ponies
Was the line that sealed it.

Great car, just needs a lower price and a little less confidence in how "rare" it is... If I was in the need for a TV (which I wouldn't mind having one, but I'm neck deep in an M3 I already can't afford) I'd pay $12K if he could provide a little more information/pictures.

At least he's not stating the price of everything like:
STAGGERED ORIGINAL CONTOURS $1500
Stainless Steel Exhaust (Sounds like prancing ponies) $700
RARE Technoviolet $4000
LOW MILES (160k is low for these cars!!!) $1000
Etc.....

But he revealed that his asking price is more than what he paid for the car. That's a terrible idea from a seller's standpoint.

If it will continue to appreciate in value as the seller claims, why is it being sold? That's like investing 101.

Once it sells, we won't have a pic, so here it is...
I predict a sale price of $8,500. Half of asking price.
I had a Techno once. It's DAM hard to sell purple.

Very Rare 1998 BMW Techno-Violet M3 Coupe - $17000 (Cambridge/Fresh Pond)
VIN: WBSBG9324WEY78976
condition: excellent
cylinders: 6 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
odometer: 160000
paint color: purple
size: mid-size
title status: clean
transmission: manual

Excellent condition. A real head turner. Manual 5 speed transmission. Vader seats. Original BMW Contour wheels. Everything works. No rust guaranteed. New to market.
Clean clean clean. Always garaged. Cared for. No smoke ever.
Stainless Steel aftermarket exhaust note is reminiscent of the sound of prancing ponies.
Includes summer and winter tires, all on staggered (original equipment) Contour wheels - soon to be dipped black.

Modifications:
* Keyless Entry
* Tinted windows
* Nice Kenwood radio
* Speakers front (5") & back (very nice 6x9s with Carbon Fiber Cones)
* City horn: European hi/low in parallel with high beams. Kind to pedestrians and bicyclists. Throwback to our beloved Citroen DS (sob... ;-)
* Sylvania Silver Star headlights
* Short throw shifter

All new cooling system at 125K miles. New plugs and shocks. New headliner, B pillar wraps, and rear shelf liner. New floor mats.
Rare, Very Rare, or Medium Rare? Only 52 Techno Violet M3s with black interior and 5 speed manual were exported to the USA. How many of those do you think are still on the road? 20? In this condition? 5? You tell me!

This car has been lovingly maintained and conserved for TV M3 nuts like me. I know you are out there! I saved this car for you!! :-)
I bought it at 117K miles. It is now worth more than I paid for it, and will continue to appreciate as it is very rare, the color is gorgeous, and those who love it (like me) really want it! The e36 M3 has a cult following (I'm not crazy about the e46 M3). It is a car for enthusiasts. If any color, or any year will do - this is not the car for you.

I know you had a hard time selling your purple car, but you don't seem to ever acknowledge that the market has changed, for these cars in general, and especially for the wacky colours. Someone offered me 19k for my car just yesterday, for the fourth time.
