Default Z06 front brakes on M3

hi all,

looking for some feedback from those who have used C6 Z06 front brakes on an E46 M3.
i've scored a set for a song and am looking for feedback on track usage etc.

i know there's better kits out there, but not for the price.

thanks,

They are an OK caliper by all accounts. Made by PBR in Australia.
Jake Rozelle ran them on his 1st gen Camaro and won his GTV class in Optima Last year, no idea if he rebuilt them during the season tho.
With that being said. I was looking at a set for my camaro a couple years back when they were like $600 a set for the calipers. After reading on the corvette forums about the pistons seizing or something like that, the serious Z06 guys all swap them out I ended up getting wilwood aero6 calipers w/pads for $900 (I use Z51 rotors on a C6 steering knuckle)
The hot swap these days is the ZR1 or Z28 brembo caliper or the 2nd gen CTS-V brembo but they are still pretty expensive.

I have this set-up with the Porsche Cayman rear calipers.

DBA 5000 T3 two-piece rotors in the front with Stop Tech single pads, and 4000 T3 rear rotors. Also have the programming set to ZCP.

As for weight, if I remember correctly, stock is around 40lbs. and my current rig is 34lbs. if you include the brackets.

Very similar to stock (calculated) CSL bias, but honestly not much of a huge improvement over stock for street duty, other than weight and aesthetics. I haven't taken the brakes to their limits so I can't comment on track duty potential.

From the Corvette world, the general consensus is that for even fairly aggressive track use, they're 'OK'. Using one piece pads instead of the 6 individuals is a recommended upgrade, but then you need to remove the caliper to change pads.
The faster guys complain of caliper spread, uneven pad wear, retaining pins falling out, etc.
But a fast Z06 on the track is pretty f*ckin fast...

that'll do me fine, thanks all.

i can get 2 piece dba rotors for a good price locally, and replace the padlets with a 1 piece (there's limited choice for pads but meh).

meanwhile i'll slap on the hardware supplied - all which is as new and give them a shakedown.

Any updates?
I also run the DBA 2 piece on the front of my camaro. Nice rotors, they haul my 3500lb muscle car down repeatedly with no complaints

well they seem to work pretty well as i bought them. no track work yet, but some abuse on a back road run, and they held up with no complaints. pedal feels much better, but those 355mm iron 1pc discs are heavy..

there is precious fa clearance between the brakes and the style 260 wheels, but i can get away without using spacers.
