Default 10/60

For an 01-06 M3 and I just checked mine but clearly right under the hood on the air intake is a sticker annotating the Castrol 10/60. Anyone else?

The 5W30 was for the rest of the engine line in the 3 series, among many others I'm sure. I'd guess the SA isn't too familiar with the particulars of the M.

same with mine. on the owners manual that i got from the previous owner they had put in 5W30.

but the BMW dealer puts in 10W60, same as what it says right under the hood.

I called Paul Miller BMW in wayne, and they said $120 (10w60)

I guess ill be going to Paul Miller on monday.

Have a question. My e46 has 62k on it and I'm about to put do an Inspection II on it. but of course I want the best price.

dealer wants 1900 all said and done, 700 for parts.
a local dealer place is asking 964 (very reputable place, VS motorsports, have heard nothing but amazing things).

but I want to order the parts from http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...CT_ID=INSP2S54 and they give this:

Quote:
Inspection II Maintenance Package - E46 M3, MZ3 (S54)
Part #: INSP2S54
Applications: 2001 - 2006 (E46 MZ3)

Inspection II Package for 2001-2006 E46 M3 and MZ3 (S54).

Includes: Castrol TWS 10w60 engine oil (7 quarts), OEM oil filter, Ate Super Blue brake fluid, A/C microfilter, OEM NGK spark plugs, OEM air filter, Red Line transmission and differential oil (2 quarts of each), OEM fuel filter. Optional items for the Do-It-Yourselfer are the valve cover gaskets -- for if you or your mechanic are performing the BMW recommended valve adjustment, a Peake Fault Code/Reset Tool and/or a Bentley Service Manual. CRC Airflow Sensor cleaner included at no charge!

We also offer the OEM fluids for the transmission and differential. You can add these instead of the Red Line Oil if you prefer. We use the OEM Pentosin transmission fluid (comparable to MTF LT2) and OE BMW SAF-XJ+FM Booster for the differential. Select the option below if you would like to substitute them. For E46 M3 only - the MZ3 does not use these fluids in either the transmission or diff.
wondering what else I'm missing other then the valve cover gaskets?

My "check engine soon" light just came on this morning.... My car is currently at 92k, does that mean inspection 2 is needed?

nope, totally unrelated. The countdown when you turn on the car tells you when inspection should be. The SES light means something is failing/failed.

noob question about brakes:

I will probably need some work done on my brakes very soon. The question is, do I have to get a whole new brake set or can I just go by with replacing the brake pads? I was told I would probably have to get the rotors replaced too?

You don't have to replace the rotors when replacing pads, although I fear that's a line used by a lot of dealers or shops looking for extra $$$. Regardless of pad changes, rotors have a minimum thickness marked somewhere on the outer edge that they are safe to use until they are at that point.

Your rotors may actually need replaced if they are that worn. The good news is, replacement blanks are cheap and installing them is surprising easy.
