Question catalytic converter

hey guys i have a bmw m3 98, check engine lights came up,, can a bad catalytic converter cause a check engine light?

Yes an so can a 100 other different things. Get or borrow a code reader and look up what codes are showing. That's the start of diagnosing CEL.

Get the code read.

In most cars, bad cats will generally throw a P0420 code.
