Default Chas3n's Imola/Imola Build Journal - CS/OE+

After what seems like forever without an E46 M3 (year and a half) I'm back into one. While helping a friend find his M3, I stumbled across a unicorn, and my personal holy grail, an Imola on Imola with a build date of 01/02. Not only was it local, it was 99% ideally optioned (fully loaded, but manual heated seats and no rear sunshade) with that 1% being SMG. The car had a complete SMG overhaul (pump clutch master slave etc.) so it's hard to do the swap so soon, as the transmission is tolerable once the correct tune is applied. Having now put 500 miles on it since purchasing 3 days ago, I've been able to compile my list of what should be done, and what I want to be done.

Unlike my last one, this is going to see mostly BMW CCA drives and occasional drive into work (100-mile commute once a week) as it's far too nice to track, and I just don't see the enjoyment in a street car out there. So mostly cosmetic changes, as IMO, the car in OE+ form is excellent, and most of the aftermarket stuff is garbage from china.

Specs:
2002 Imolarot/Imolarot SMG

Navi, Manual heated seats, pretty much every option available but the rear sun shade. 3 owners 105k miles at purchase, purchased from a caring enthusiast locally in the PNW. OE ZCP wheels, some aftermarket Navi and a radar/laser (I think) detector/jammer. Had recent SMG overhaul and fresh FCAB/RTAB's.

What it needs:
Updated Cam position sensor
Alignment and Tires
2 dents pulled, new front bumper, possibly rear quarter panels respray (minor rock chips from tires) roof rack panels resprayed
Front seats re-conditioned with either Leatherique or Gliptone, prefer Gliptone
Replace cig plug Door trim piece (typical scratches)
Guibo/CSB replaced (minor driveshaft play)
VANOS bullet proofed
CMP Kit welded in and color matched w/ plates + Subframe/Diff bushings and front bolt
Replace door window rubber/Replace rear quarter panel window rubber

Overall not much, and I'm happy with the condition mechanically!

What I'd like to do:

OE fitting CSL cosmetics (V-CSL bumper and diffuser acquired)
Dinan/JRZ dampers/springs w/ OE top hats and ECS RSM's
Turner/ECS FCABs/RTABs
Complete overhaul of suspension (tie rods control arms trailing arms wheel bearings)
SMG/DME tune (Possibly another TTFS setup or a local tuner)
Delage Sport Airbox or Eventuri intake system
Euro headers/Sect. 1 w/ Remus Sect. 3
Wrap Pillars/Headliner/Plastic Trim w/ Alcantara
Upgrade speakers and add Amp/small Sub (look into hardwire for iPhone)
Brembo F/R BBK (smallest caliper pot size)

Essentially create a CS/OE+themed car with added luxury and improve the driving dynamics over stock while retaining comfort.

Now onto the photo's

PO drove with me to fuel up and say goodbye

Plugged in Data from the Carfax (TONS I didn't include that were kinda fluff) and the PO to create my maintenance journal

Drove her out to a PCA HPDE with some fellow track nut buddies

Adding negative rear camber and correcting TOE alignment

Short test drive w/ PO

Overall, I just ****ing love this combo. It's taken a few days, but I'm finally realizing that I am in MY Imola, and not my cousins Too used to seeing the combo and thinking of his E46. Updates to come this week

Took a buddy to pick up his newly purchased e46 M3

And while filling up a Mystic drove up

Took the Washington side (highway 14) back home from Portland. It backs right up into my home and the scenes are amazing

I've seen PY on Kiwi, LSB on LSB and those are just has bad as TiAg on Dove lol. Imola on Imola just works perfect and doesn't seem a bit too much either.

Welcome back.

I'd call SMG a lot more than 1% off of optimal.

But I bet you got a great deal because of it...

Not sure if you're aware, but swapping these is fairly simple. All it takes is about $3000 up front. Not bad at all.
