Default Nav unit alarm warning??

So lately I've been getting this "ALARM" warning show up when I am listening to the radio or DICE into with my iPod. This warning will show up and the volume will increase at random. I have no idea what is causing it. Has anybody seen this before??

It's probably the DICE as those can be buggy and spam the I-Bus. Try unplugging it and seeing if the symptoms go away.

Nope it's the BM53 amp going bad. That's exactly what happened to my radio.

Thanks! Where is the BM53 amp? Is it one of the amps in the rear pillars?

Yes it is. Behind the driver side panel. It's the one behind the Alpine unit in the photo.

That's an odd failure mode

You're welcome to borrow my BM53 to test, if you want. :thumbup2:

Ya it is but that's what causes this. It will be intermittent and then get worse over time.

You can get a BM53 on eBay for $100-$200. The BM53L322 out of a Range Rover will work as well.

Carphonic's can repair the BM53 by doing an amp upgrade.

DIYParadise if you want to DIY the BM53 yourself.

Have you used either of these services? I'm interested in the DIY from Paradise. Do you know if it comes with instructions or just parts?

I read about the Carphonics service from another thread. Really tempting, especially since they can also do firmware upgrades, RCA preouts and Bluetooth. It would leave a ton of flexibility for audio upgrades in the future. It's just reaalllly expensive.

Yes, I'm getting that too! I only hear that with the radio though, not through the DICE when my iPod is playing. So I originally thought it was an antenna amp issue.
