Default Re: Quick SMG review from an inexperienced driver

I went from an 04 SMG M3 to a '15 6MT WRX, then 6MT F30, 6MT E92 M3, R32 Skyline GTR, 08 Civic Si and back to another SMG M3. I daily drove all of them.

It's odd, for me the E46 M3 isnt quite right without SMG. I'd rather drop money on a relocation kit than manual swap it.

What grams don’t know won’t hurt her. Gloves optional #racecar

It's all in there though there's a lot of interplay between different functions and most of it is not in intuitive units

Definitely get the SMG CSL software. It makes the SMG enjoyable to drive. Get Martyns Tool, you can flash everything yourself for around $50.

Yes, and pilotis.

Also yes. While I wouldn't throw a working SMG out of bed, I'd swap if it broke (again).

Bah, look at all the hurting egos. I can guarantee SMG will outshift everyone posting in this thread in every situation. Shift smoothness aside, SMG is quicker.
E46 SMG II shift speed: 80 ms
Fastest recorded human shift: around 140ms
End of story.

SMG in auto is terrible. If you drive an SMG exactly like you would a manual, it's great. Yea it's not as great as a DCT, but the car is almost 20 years old.

Let's not forget that the stock 6 speed manual is not without its flaws either.

Find what car you like the most and don't let the tranny choice steer you away.

I didn’t know faster shifts was the selling point in an old 330hp bmw sedan based coupe. Even bmw was like, smg? Nahhh dct
