Default Buying a Used E36-problems, etc... (FOR FAQ SECTION)

Hey guys, this is the first of a few threads we are creating to go in the FAQ section. Hopefully, if we answer common questions once and for all, we'll stop getting the same threads over and over.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'm just going to link to lots of old threads on buying used M's.

This is an old thread that had a lot of useful information.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...&threadid=6933

This is a discussion of what options people would or would not want in their used M's if they had to buy them again.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ht=buying+used

Here's a basic bickering about age of buyers when a 16 Year old wanted to get a 95...this is how not to introduce yourself on the forum.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ht=buying+used

Differences between 96 and 97's...some links at the end are useful.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ht=buying+used

A discussion about why an M3 over a new Honda/WRX/RSX et.c

If you are considering a manual vs. an auto, read this thread. There is a bit of bickering in it, but it might help.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ht=buying+used

If you are considering an OBD-1 95 M3 vs. 96-99 OBD-II M3...this is a modification thread.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ht=buying+used

If I'm taking the time to dig through all this old crap, I'm going to post ***** a little.

This thread has DSK 3/4's response which is a very good cursory description of what might fail in used cars.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ghlight=buying

This discusses sedans specifically and lots of other stuff. There were about 50 responses to this thread, which is amazing because it seems like we answered the question about every other day.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...ghlight=buying

Good thread with info on car seats...compression test...etcs.

Here are some threads from my personal stash that are important if you are buying the car for the first time.

The imfamous "shifter rests under 5th when cold problem":

Here's some proof from a roundel issue.

Problems with Rear Trail Arm Bushings (RTAB's):

I can't imagine having too much more to say on this issue other than the 2034098 threads here, but if anyone wants to add, go for it.

Bah, there can't possibly be more to say on the topic...anything more specific can just be plain asked on the forums.

Let's lock this down.
