Mehhh. The backs somewhat check a box, but the bottoms look straight out of a 90's mustang seat. I'm not certain, but it also looks like they sit much higher than the SR/SRD/Speed. The bottom cushions are huge. That fabric has got to go though.

I would advise you to just buy the Recaro modified OE brackets if you want maximum ease with install, especially with the seat belt receptacles. There are zero aftermarket options out there (maybe Brey Krause, but no one has done E36) that handle the seat belt receptacles in a "safe" manner.

When you ask for technical advice and end up with Brett's personal opinion.

He's not wrong though (Thanks Brett, now I can't unhear the Mustang analogy).

I've been super happy with the Recaro bases. They are OEM BMW rails, which really makes them a bargain. The low version comes with a beauty cover so everything is tidy and apropos. Many of the third party mounting brackets look homemade and are PIA to install (fasteners are covered so you can't use a socket). Plus I never had to think twice about safety when mounting up the receptacles. Attaches same as factory seats do.

FYI some bases don't 'center' the seat well (E36-wise between door panel and transmission tunnel. Both Sports and SRD's have pretty wide wingspans AND you have a sedan which is narrower so this is something to be mindful of. Floor mounts + sliders are generally for bucket seats which are a bit narrower to begin with...

EDIT: Just measured and I have 3" between the top of my head and the (sunroof) headliner.

You can block him if you don't want his opinions. Good luck on finding any technical info though after that.

Do whatever you want, just don’t be a baby about making suggestions on better options.

Isn't that a sad reality?

Doc: "Here's the antidote to your ailment but we made sure it tastes like dog shit."

Patient: "Couldn't you have just made a non-dog shit tasting antidote?"

Doc: "Yes, but it's more fun to see your face react to the flavor of dog shit."

Patient: "Isn't that a bit childish?"

Doc: "Do you want the antidote or not?"

I made a polite suggestion as well. Knowing this guy likes to jump on my case when I give my opinion, I was sure to word it nicely. The reaction to that said that this was going to go like the rest, so I gave up being nice about it.

He can do whatever he wants. For someone who is steadfast in his decision, he is awfully sensitive to alternate suggestions.
