As early 911 prices rose, they dragged up the whole air cooled line, so e30 prices have done the same for e36 pricing.

6 years ago you could still find decent, not great, e30s in the high teens. I was hoping to get a car to let my daughters trash at the track but passed as many just had too many stories.

Today, an e36 is a great alternative, but as for pricing, there is a ceiling here given the production numbers. E36 M3s are not rare. Clean ones yes but too many for investors to sock away; which is a good thing.

PS Any well driven e36 is more than a match for a dentist in his GT3RS at Streets of Willow; as they used to say about Bear Bryant: he can beat you with his, then take yours and beat you with his.

Vintage Ferrari prices brought up 911 prices.

Idk man, they made a SHIT ton of 911’s over the years and they are still trading for stupid money. Everyday on BAT I see another 1-3 turbos being auctioned off lol.

They only made ~15k manual coupes for the e36 m3 and most of them are completely trashed. I want to say less than 10% are in great condition with less than 1% being garage queens.

While I agree that they will never worth as much as e30 m3’s, as e46 m3 prices go up so will e36 m3’s. I wouldn’t be shocked if these cars hit a 35-50k mark in the next 3-5 years.

Plus the saving grace of these cars will be the fact that BMW keeps ****ing up newer M cars.

Good point but the 911s that have really gone up are pretty rare as well; very few 964s (89-94) middies (74-78). The early cars were always a premium as well as turbos. 6 years ago you could get a nice 74 for 20k, now they don't come up or are 50k.

I think the e36 is poised to be "discovered" but the money will go to nice cars not track rats or rusty high mileage beaters, and there you are right; there just aren't many great no story cars for sale.

I think E36 prices will continue to rise, but a lot slower than E46s. Hagerty Vehicle Ratings issues a 0-100 score to describe a car's appreciation (50 being average and in line with the market overall). They list the E46 M3 at 91/100 making it the 10th or 12th quickest appreciating car they currently track:

Meanwhile 930s are now listed as the second slowest appreciating (scored 6/100), suggesting they're high prices now mostly peaked:

E46 m3ís are still relatively cheap and I agree that they will rise quickly. One thing that will be interesting to keep track of is the price differentials between 95ís and 96+. I wonder if LTW prices will do anything to help 95ís go up.

I hope they will, but then again I have a 95 so I'm biased. I liked the squared off kidneys on the earlier cars and the stamped LTW wheels for 95 better versus the later polished ones. That, the S50 w/ obd1, and a couple unique colors like Avus blue I think might make the 95s special.

There is nothing that makes a 95 more desirable than a 96-99. That said the 96-99 is barely more desirable than a 95.
All thats going to matter when 99% of the cars are shit, is condition, transmission, milage, and colour. The rest are just details.
Oh and it needs to have a roof.

Given how regular e30s have taken off, it would be nice for the e36 to finally get a real bump. How these cars hover in the low to mid-teens is deflating. It seems wholly undervalued. Even 996s are now going up.

$35-50k would be great, but how about just consistently in the $20s?

Anyone who wants a clean e36 can get them .. high supply keeps price down. Eventually the clean cheap examples will be gone in collections or stance — boosted out of the market. Heck Even a clean fox body mustang has gone up in value. Eventually buyers outnumbered supply.
