Perfectly clean, the vehicle has been groomed down to the tire treads. Painted and chromed surfaces are mirror-like. Dust and dirt are banned, and materials used are correct and superbly fitted. The one word description for #1 vehicles is "concours."

I suspect no cars that get driven are in this category.
You'd say so, except for "...driving onto the lawn at the finest concours..."

But surely, when driving onto the lawn, say goodbye to groomed tyre threads.

Cars at my local concours get trailered (enclosed) to/from the event, and only driven to their spot on the lawn.

Is there even a single Concours level E36 at this point? I don't see them being worth the money yet for someone to $bring$ one to that level. We've had some fantastic restorations from a couple posters...mechanically, but I haven't seen one entire tier 1 yet inside and out.

The other issue is that the performance of stock E36s...enough said.

Great news for all of us though, and this will only bring more market to these cars, driving up prices.

Been waiting for this to start moving upward

According to the Hagerty chart condition 3 and 4 cars really have not really appreciated in the last 5 years.

Tell that to the E30 M3 which is way slower than the E36 M3

I noticed that too, however, I think buyer perception of what fits in each category may have shifted a bit.

Last week I passed by a local exotic car dealer that had a blue M3 in the center of the showroom, surrounded by old Alfas and air-cooled Porsches. Looked it up later and saw they were asking $45k. Whether anyone will buy it at that price idk. For the money I'd rather get a driver quality car + an S54 swap

When I bought my M3, one of the other cars I looked at was a 2007 335i. The 335i was faster than the M3 in every measurable way, but no more fun to drive. As I considered the two, I looked at the salesman and said "In ten years this will be an old BMW, but that will be an M3 and actually worth something"

It's nice to see that finally happening...
