also came across something new. why do some old school tensioners have an extra wire that is clipped into the seat frame? does this version have any compatibility issues with the seat belts?

That's the old style tensioner for manual seats. That hook on the end of the cable hooks into the seat rail and prevents accidental activation of the tensioner with rapid/sudden movement of the seat base.

Electric seats don't have the cable since the motors work at a fixed speed. These have a screw to deactivated them (and then show a green dot in a peep hole on them).

Should've been more specific.

Here's a pic.



It prevents activation from a rapid stop against the seat's front endstop. In that position the cable is 'relaxed' aka tensioner deactivated. When the cable is pulled out it arms the tensioner.
