If power is "lacking", just throw full bolt-ons at it and you'll be in the neighborhood of the factory S54 anyway (actually, probably higher than the Z3M application of the S54).

If you really just want to spend ~$20k (?? guessing) on an engine swap, then S65 imo. The S62 is pretty close in character to the S52 already in the car, and an S85 is egregious

Most owners say the s52 is by far the more balanced of the two variations.

With that being said, why would you want to put a stupid big motor in a z3????

I've never liked the Z3MC so I'd just throw caution to the wind and put the big V10 in there, point it straight, and try to hang on.

Yep, also these cars have notorious rear subfloor problems correct? I wouldn't want to throw a lot of turbo/big V8 torque at a fragile chassis like that.

Pretty much the same as e36/e46 chassis cars. The problem and fix are a bit different but it's not any more intense or intrusive to fix compared to those cars

Agree with most opinions in this thread.

S52: very good motor, throttle by cable, good torque and power, reliable, responds well to mods, and best of all cheap to replace as E36 M3's are abundant. Agree on the car being well balanced with it's output and I have no real plans to do an engine swap as the car is quite amazing as is.

S65: I couldn't agree more. To me it is the only choice here if one were looking to break the mold and go for something pricey but an ideal improvement. Weighs less than the S52 and every other engine choice here.

S50: Would be best bang for the buck engine swap no question as it would cost maybe 1/4 the price of doing the S65. Though it's not all that exciting.

And to everyone who wanted to choose an S54 to swap into an S52 Z3 M Coupe...
