Default Still looking to add another, Anyone tried an m6 manual, v10?

Same old, still looking for another summer car to add to the insanity.
Was considering the 996 turbo manual, the e92 dct, and lately the m6 v10 manual. Haven't driven the last two, should I bother trying the m6 out? I basically can't take any of them to the corning limit around here and I don't track so that should be kept in mind. I also am a little afraid of looking like a gangster in the m6. The turbo is the most expensive, the other two bmws depend on mileage. A 50k km manual m6 just showed up, should I drive for 3 hours to test drive it? The weather sucks here and I don't want to drag the guys car out for a spin unless it's worth our time.

Thanks

I’d argue that you could say the same thing about e46 m3.

E9X m3 seems to be fairly robust and not a money pit.

I want what any man wants, power, brakes, less crap inside, light, not too showy, so probably not the v10, but the sound it makes.... on the tube..

The m3 been alright. Did the bearings, full vanos and bolts, fcab, fuel pump myself and it's not bad. couple thousand. That's what i like about the M fellows, there is such a large community sharing diy info that it makes fixing things possible, as well as fcpeuro, ecs, etc... That's what makes the m6 even possible, i can to the rod bearings. I want the 966 turbo, but try to find a diy on timing chain/tensioner/pad etc.. not much out there, so you're kinda on your own, which means manuals, tools, etc... very very pricey quickly, and the mezger is not as reliable an engine as it appears on the surface.

The e9x is a good balance, though I am not too fond of v8s, guess growing up around american v8 gave me my fill. First car I drove was my Dad's v8 when I was 14, ripping around the corners, hammering the gas mid-way, it was crazy (diy driving, thankfully it all worked well). I love the idea of the high rev v8, but in the back of my mind, the basic sound is too familiar.

There is a very good reason E60/3 M5/6s are so cheap.

I've driven my friends e60 M5. The power is insane above 6k rpm and sounds amazing. But, the gas mileage is completely and utterly horrible. It's a great car. But I would not own one, or an M6 for that matter–not really my taste. I'd definitely get a 996 from your three options.
