Default Sketchy BMW airbag recall email?

Hey folks, received an email from bmw@mybmwauto.com regarding the airbag recall notice. There wasn't a safety recall number quoted, but it had the BMW logos and some numbers to call.

post images

What was really odd was that the sign off at the bottom of the email where you could click "Manage subscriptions"/"Unsubscribe" was listed as:

Stericycle | 6026 Lakeside Blvd. | Indianapolis | IN | 46278

Manage Subscriptions | Update Profile

Obviously i didn't click on any of the links, but I searched Stericycle and it's a waste recycling company in indianapolis.

Has anyone gotten something like this?

Not fake. Stericycle is working with all U.S. automakers in the recall. If I had to guess, they're handling the disposal of the airbags across the U.S. and probably getting paid a fortune.

If they put together an email campaign, you can bet they're making money off this; they figure the effort of the email campaign will easily, I should say exponentially, pay for itself.

Think about it, they probably spent a few hundred bucks on some email lists and crafted that email. For minimal cost, their email will either inform someone about the recall or remind them about it, even if they think the email is fake. The email content obviously isn't fake. It's just telling you what every other recall notice says, go get your airbags swapped. Every airbag submitted is adding to their bottom line.

It's not legit BMW is all I meant as well as that it's unnecessary to me. It serves no purpose for OP or any of us as we already know about the recall, already got letters in the mail, and still have to take action and call BMW like we did before this email got to op/us. I understand it serves a purpose to those who sent it, but their interests aren't mine so IDGAF and would just ignore this as I would any fake email.

I don't really know why OP bothered posting this as nothing about it is new/different.

I agree that it doesnt look like its from a legit bmw email, and yes we all got the letters in the mail. all i'm trying to do is figure out how if its legit or not - if its fake, then i'm wondering how they get my vin and email address (didnt copy it in the image above)

If in doubt if it's real or fake just ignore the phone number on the email and call your local dealer. Tell them you haven't had your airbag recall done and book it in. Then you can ignore that email and any future emails about it.

Took my '04 in for this over weekend. I had an airbag warning light pop up, looked under passenger seat to find one of the sensor plugs not attached, which per forum probably triggered it. While looking through the forum I found the recall, so scheduled it figuring if they need to swap out the air bags, resetting the warning light would be just a matter of plugging in the diagnostic tool and clearing it... nope... they still charged me 129.00 to clear the code. Recall free. Pushing button to clear a code, 129.00. For 99.00 I could have bought the code clear cool on Amazon and been 30 bucks ahead. Bastages....

Stericycle is a bunch of scumbags. They lost a class action lawsuit a while back about their contract pricing.
