SMG COG Light posted a wonderful maintenance post last month, which i intend to follow if i keep the SMG.

I will be conducting a pressure test on the accumulator to rule that out of needing replacement entirely. I am thinking that if it is holding pressure just fine, replacing the seals on it and the hydraulic assembly should work just fine. I will then begin assembling my parts list for replacement parts on the SMG, or 6 speed swap, so i can weigh both and make a final decision.
Drive your car for 20min to bring the car to normal operating temperature, and then park the car and with the ignition on in position 2, see how many shifts you can get in the HCU before the motor activates again. Typically with a failing unit you will only be able to get 1-3 shifts in. With a new HCU or a correctly rebuilt unit, you are able to get 6 shifts in before the motor activates again.

Thanks, I will check this. Thinking back now i did not try this yesterday, nor did i even check the motor torque values and pressure to see what it was holding at. I do recall while i was sitting there going through Inpa, i would hear the pump motor prime at least every 3-4 minutes which thinking back now is less than ideal.

SMG is a fantastic transmission, when working well, when it's not, that's when people get scared away. I had similar issues and a few times it even dropped me into neutral on hot summer days. Burkhart Engineering has a SMG pump repair kit that fixes most people's issues, which is caused by a failing pump motor. I ordered the kit and a new pressure accumulator to be safe. No need for all the relocation mess.

My SMG is reliable again and has been going 2 years issue-free. I highly recommend the BE kit.
